Innsbruck:
Where the Mountains Are the City

Innsbruck sits in a narrow valley with the Nordkette massif rising almost vertically from the city's northern edge. It is, depending on your perspective, a city that happens to be surrounded by mountains — or a mountain town that got too large and became a city. The distinction matters. Almost every other alpine city keeps the peaks at a comfortable distance. Innsbruck lets them press in close.

Draft in progress. Photos and full write-up coming soon. The skeleton is here — the story follows.
